WinXDefender

WinXDefender is a rogue anti-spyware application that infiltrates systems via trojans and browser security exploits. Once inside, WinXDefender proceeds to harass users with numerous pop-up notifications regarding system security. Once clicked upon, these pop-ups will start WinXDefender and offer you a free system scan.

After WinXDefender scans your system, it will display a falsified security report with large amounts of non-existent errors and exaggerated threat lists. This is done to scare you into believing that your system is heavily infected and that only  WinXDefender may help you clear things up. You will then be offered to purchase  WinXDefender in order to clear these false errors.

WinXDefender recognized as malware - Symantec detects  WinXDefender and adds it to its threat list.

WinXDefender defined - read a in-depth WinXDefender description and manual removal instructions.
