WinCleaner 2009 – yet another rogue
WinCleaner 2009 is another rogue anti-spyware application, fake spyware remover. It was probably developed by the same group of scammers who had created such a rogue anti-spyware programs as Win Antivirus Vista/XP and ASC AntiSpyware. But in this case, cyber-thieves took different approach and integrated a security engine called ClamWin into the WinCleaner2009. ClamWin itself is a reliable anti-malware engine. It allows developers to integrate anti-malware technology into their products. It sounds great, but actually they use ClamWin to comprimise good system files and legal entries.
After infection, WinCleaner 2009 performs fake scan and floods the system with pop-up windows and alert notices about various infections and security problems. It is a bit strange that WinCleaner 2009 shows only the name of infection, but hides the place where the infected file is located. Because user then is unable to delete that file and has to buy a full copy of WinCleaner 2009 in order to remove all the infections. And this is actually the main goal of cyber-thieves. To sell useless application. So, it is very important to understand that WinCleaner 2009 is an infection itself and must be removed as soon as possible from the system if already infected.
