Using Facebook? Be careful of Koobface
Koobface is a Worm that works by adding links to social networking profiles, while posing as a video codec. The PC may be found to be hijacked by this parasite when anyone of the computer users has an account of Facebook or other social websites. After clicking a link and installing the “video codecâ€, Koobface is actually downloaded instead of that.
This worm is known to launch and search the PC for social networking site cookies and to use these cookies to modify the profiles with Koobface links. Most of these links the user is directed to features different texts trying to deceive, for example, “Hello, you must see that!â€, “Your new video seems to be amazing!â€, or “Lindsay Lohan stuns everybody by tossing on the streetâ€.
The user should be careful and do not click on these messages, because after doing this he will be automatically prompted to download a video codec, which is the Koobface worm, actually. If the machine is already infected, the owner should delete this parasite as soon as possible.
These are the files, that need to be deleted: C:\Windows\fmark2.dat
